Update: Number of MN flocks affected now 14 - KSTP.com

Update 4/23/2015  - FDA working on vaccine for both humans and Poultry - MN StarTribune.

This strain of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza has killed 100% of a flock within five days.

Current information as of 4/23/2015: This strain can affect both Turkey and chickens.  As of today 4/23/2015 it now has affected chickens in Minnesota.  As of today there has been no avian to human transmission.

Update (4/24/2015) - Governor Dayton has declared a Minnesota Agriculture State of Emergency. As of today 2.6 million birds have been affected.  A mixed poultry flock in Pipestone county has been infected. MDH  is urging people who work with inflected flocks to take Tamiflu, a medicine designed to prevent a person from catching the virus.  So far no human has tested positive for the avian flu virus.
